Our story

Hi, I'm Karen — the potter behind Shaw Hill Pottery. I work out of a small studio here in Ontario, where I throw and hand finish every piece myself. Pottery is the thing I love most, and I put my whole heart into each mug, bowl, and platter that leaves my hands.
I make pieces meant to be used — not saved for a special occasion that never quite comes.
The mug you reach for first thing in the morning. The bowl that holds dinner on a busy night. Every piece is one of a kind, glazed in colours I draw from the world around me, and made to hold up to real, everyday life.
More than anything, I love sharing this craft. That's why I teach classes in my studio and bring hands-on pottery out into my community. If one of my pieces finds a place in your home — or you come spend an afternoon with me at the wheel — that means the world to me.
Every piece starts as a lump of clay on Karen's wheel — centered, opened, and pulled by one pair of hands.
Glazes mixed and layered for one-of-a-kind colour, then fired until the piece is strong enough for daily life.
Not shelf art. These pieces are for morning coffee, weeknight dinners, and everything in between.
Food-safe glazes. Oven, microwave, and dishwasher safe — built for your daily rituals.
